In the first three months of 2021, two orthopedic robots received FDA 510(k) clearance and joined a growing number of systems on the market. These two new technologies, Johnson & Johnson’s VELYS and Fusion Robotics’ System, serve joint replacement and spine procedures respectively—the predominant indications for orthopedic robots today. VELYS and Fusion Robotics’ market entries expand the number of orthopedic robots to 15 systems from 12 companies.
